Why won't my HEIC photo open on Windows?

Windows needs paid HEVC codecs to open HEIC natively, so many PCs simply can't display it. Converting the photo to JPG makes it open in any viewer, browser or editor.

Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?

JPG is a lossy format, but at 85–90% quality the difference is invisible for photos. You can preview the result and adjust the quality slider before downloading.
